Protocol Guidance

Verde Analytics consistently considers the recommendations, standards, and guidelines promulgated by the Environmental Protection Agency, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures. We generate credible deliverables that are complete, concise, and clear, providing our clients with an independently derived, usable product supported by extensive documentation.

Our goal is to ensure the GHG emission inventory is accurate and reflects the emissions of the company via a complete accounting for sources and activities with a view toward materiality and consistency.

To achieve that goal, we apply consistent methodologies allowing for relevant comparisons, and we address material assumptions making reference to sources and methodologies.

Strong Focus

With staff professionals having extensive experience in the oil and natural gas industry, one of our strengths is knowledge of the operations and distinctions of the upstream, mid-stream, and downstream functions in the oil and gas space.

Our professionals have a wealth of experience analyzing activities such as well drilling, advanced completions, and gas processing, as examples. We are much more familiar with the complexities of GHG emission determinations for oil and natural gas operations than the general practitioner.

Independent Modeling

Our expertise in numerical modeling and statistical methods provides us with the unique cabpability of constructing science based software such as stoichiometric combustion models, chemical reaction models, and stochastic models.

We have in-house emission models for stationary combustion (multiple fuels), gas processing plants, vehicular and rail transportation, electricity generation, heavy steel fabrication, and others.

Scope 1 and Scope 2

Our team is situated to work with clients on Scope 1 (direct emissions from assets owned or controlled by the company) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy). We can assist you in organizing, classifying, and ascribing GHG emissions to recognized assets or processes.

Scope 3

Scope 3 includes all indirect emissions in a company value chain not included in Scope 2. Scope 3 emissions are both upstream and downstream with fifteen source categories, each having an identified minimum boundary. The magnitude of the effort required to reasonably estimate Scope 3 emissions is substantial. The professionals at Verde Analytics are prepared to assist you with the tasks required to complete a Scope 3 analysis. With our strong focus in the energy space, we are better positioned to understand the magnitude of an oil and natural gas operation Scope 3 assessment.

Planning

Our firm is uniquely qualified to assist with understanding an organizational boundary design, whether based on equity share, operational control, or financial control. Verde Analytics also provides expertise in identifying emissions associated with operations and categorizing GHG as direct or indirect based on operational boundaries. We can provide design ideas for data collection, data sourcing, data integrity, and emission inventory management, with a viewpoint toward future requirements and reporting demands.

Quantifying Uncertainty

Understanding the level of uncertainty associated with emission inventory can be crucial to interpreting Scope 3. Our analysts have a significant amount of experience in designing stochastic models applied to guiding data quality improvement and methodological approach.

Techniques for analyzing systems with large numbers of distributed and correlated parameter inputs is a strength we bring to GHG determinations for any Scope.

Verification of GHG Emission Estimates

We are positioned to provide independent verification of reported GHG emissions. Our team can assess the risk of a significant difference between reported values and an independently generated assessment stemming from the application of appropriate standards and reasonable methodologies. Our verification work is focused on providing confidence that an inventory report is a true and fair accounting, following an examination of all supporting details.

Rigorous Field and Site Inspection

Our professionals are qualified to perform rigorous site inspections to document equipment and operating conditions. Our inspections include both pen and paper checklists and digital platforms. Equipment and special features are identified and logged via GPS and extensive photographic records, with facility condition and operational status noted. Our staff can also provide short-term low-level GHG monitoring.

Verde Analytics will retain the services of a properly registered firm to perform any work which involves the non-exempt public practice of geoscience or engineering in Texas or elsewhere.
